Surely it’s about time a deadline was set in the infamous F1 regs - the next reg review might be a good opportunity - when teams are required to field a gender balanced driver line-up? One woman and one man driver per team; failing that women in the driver team line up - among reserve drivers - could be a first step in advance of the actual deadline for gender balance. Let’s set a date for F1 joins the 21st century? How about 2035 for gender balance driver among F1 Grand Prix drivers?
It's going to take decades, I think, for women to catch up - so imposing one woman and one man, even in 2030/35 is probably too soon and we wouldn't be setting them up for success. However, I love the idea of having one woman and one man mandated for the development driver positions.
After all it's not equality but equity we are after and we need to take into account the decades of catch up in order to make a difference.
